Fed: Govt to come under pressure to help Pacific nations

The federal government will come under pressure from the World Bank to take in guest
workers from Pacific nations to curb their skyrocketing unemployment rates.

In a report to be launched today .. the World Bank warns that Pacific countries such
as the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu are facing economic disaster.

The Australian newspaper says according to the report .. the solution is for larger
economies of the region to give Pacific Islanders access to temporary unskilled jobs ..

to halt rising unemployment rates.

The paper says as the biggest nation in the region .. Australia is being looked upon
to help its struggling neighbours.
