Vic: Growing support for health pool arrangments: Brumby

Victorian Premier JOHN BRUMBY says support is growing among the states for a pooled
health funding agreement .. on the eve of crucial talks in Canberra.

The federal government wants to become the dominant health provider by grabbing 30
per cent of the states' GST revenues.

But Mr BRUMBY and New South Wales Premier KRISTINA KENEALLY are pushing a pooled 50-50
shared funding arrangement that would leave the states in control of public hospitals.

Meanwhile the Australian Medical Association in Victoria says Mr BRUMBY shouldn't sign
the commonwealth's plan until it includes extra funds for more public hospital beds.
